Amazon Strikes Exclusive Streaming Deal With CBS

amazon box 630 300x225 Amazon Strikes Exclusive Streaming Deal With CBSTwo giants, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and CBS (NYSE:CBS), have cut a first-of-its-kind streaming deal.

The deal concerns the streaming rights for CBS’ new mini-series Under the Dome, reports The New York Times. The series — based on the Stephen King novel — will have its first run on the CBS TV network. Following that, each episode will be available on CBS.com for three days. Then it will be exclusively available on Amazon’s subscriber-based Amazon Prime Video service.

The move is the next step for Amazon and its new aggressive streaming policy. Earlier, the company locked up exclusive rights for the hit PBS series, Downton Abbey. Amazon is also in the process of producing its own comedy shows for Amazon Prime.

“Adding a current season major network TV series like ‘Under the Dome’ to the Prime Instant Video library so shortly after its live airing enables us to increase our exclusive selection of great TV shows and give customers access how, when and where they want to watch it,” said Brad Beale, Amazon’s director of digital content acquisition.
