Faulty Battery Cable Prompts 750K Vehicle BMW Recall

[1]BMW announced on Tuesday a recall of 750,000 of coupes, sedans and convertibles[2] from its 3-Series and 1-Series model lines, as well as its Z4 roadsters and some X1 crossovers.

Affected vehicles, which were sold in the U.S., Canada, South Africa and Japan, are vulnerable to possible electrical malfunction due to a faulty cable connecting their batteries and fuse boxes. The cables can wear out, interrupting power to the engine and causing vehicles to stall without warning, Reuters noted.

At least one crash has been linked to the problem, but no injuries were reported. More than 504,545 vehicles sold in the U.S. are covered by the recall.

All of the vehicles included in the recall were made between March 2007 and July 2011. Vehicles sold in Europe were not affected by the recall.

In December, BMW recalled more than 30,000 X5 SUVs due to defective bolts in the vehicles’ power steering systems[3].

Earlier this month, General Motors (NYSE:GM[4]) recalled more than 8,000 Chevrolet Malibus over improperly tightened bolts in the cars’ suspension systems.[5]
