Pistorius was detained Thursday and will be in court in Pretoria on Friday to address charges related to the shooting death of model Reeva Steenkamp, reports the Associated Press. Initial reports indicated that the shooting might have been accidental, but Steenkamp’s death now is being treated as a homicide.
South African police do not release the names of the accused or the dead until charges are made in court. However, a spokeswoman for the police said “there is no other suspect involved.” The identity of the victim was confirmed by her publicist.
Pistorius made history at last year’s Olympics. A former paralympian, Pistorius — who is missing both of his legs below the knee — competed in the 400-meter run and in the 4×400 relay in London. He also defended his 400-meter Paralympic title while there.
