Users of Facebook’s (NASDAQ:FB) Instagram now have the option of viewing photos they post through Instagram’s website in addition to its mobile app.
The website debuted late last year, initially permitting users to check on their profiles. On Tuesday, Instagram launched a new service that expands access to users’ newsfeeds. Allowing users to view photos through the website enhances the search process and could provide a potential revenue stream, CNBC noted.
Instagram could start featuring advertisements on the sides of the webpage. Ads could also be displayed in user newsfeeds, providing a convenient platform for image-heavy advertisers.
Facebook acquired Instagram for reported $1 billion in April of last year.
In December, the company backed away from changes to its terms of service after users expressed outrage over conditions that would have allowed Instagram to use user images in advertising without permission or compensation.
Shares of Facebook rose more than 1% in Wednesday midday trading.
