A phone-hacking scandal is continuing to cost News Corp (NASDAQ:NWSA) money.
The firm announced that its U.K. newspaper division, News International, has reached a settlement in 17 more cases of the practice, The Wall Street Journal reports. The settlements were announced in court Friday and the terms were not discussed.
The phone-hacking scandal has plagued News Corp. for months. Accusations that its reporters and editors were illegally accessing celebrity voice-mails and using the information in stories has led to a shake up at the organization. Venerable tabloid News of the World was shut down and News Corp chair Rupert Murdoch was forced to testify before a public inquiry.
News Corp has settled a majority of the cases against it regarding phone hacking. Among those who have settled are Sarah Ferguson the ex-Duchess of York, James Blunt, Christopher Eccleston, Hugh Grant, Jude Law, Ashley Cole and John Prescott.
News Corp. said that it had “taken a range of measures across the board to identify what went wrong at the company, to compensate victims with minimal delay and distress and to ensure the same mistakes never happen again.”
