A restaurant in Japan is taking money from people who don’t finish their meals.
The upscale seafood restaurant named Hachikyo fines its diners, reports Mediabistro. People who don’t finish their meal of ikura — salmon roe with rice — end up paying a fine above the meal’s cost. Diners have to agree to eat everything the restaurant puts in their bowl before they get served.
The fines are paid to local fisherman who catch seafood for the restaurant. The restaurant’s owner used to be a fisherman and knows that the work is hard and sometimes life-threatening. He says the fine shows gratitude for their efforts.
