Target Makes a Splash in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue
A surprising number of women read the issue for fashion guidance
Discount retailer Target (NYSE:TGT) is putting six pages of ads in Time Warner‘s (NYSE:TWX) Sports Illustrated annual swimsuit issue.
The ads, targeted — perhaps surprisingly — at women, provide advice on choosing the right swimwear for the coming summer season, the Star Tribune notes.
While SI‘s swimsuit issue is traditionally aimed at men, a significant number of women also look at the issue to get read on swimwear fashion. Target hopes to exploit the swimsuit issue’s female readership to promote its bathing suits and pool and beach accessories.
Last month, Target announced that Brightstar and MarketSource would replace Radioshack (NYSE:RSH) as the operator of its in-store mobile phone shops, beginning in April.
Shares of Target were mostly flat in Wednesday morning trading.
