The blueprints were displayed by Palmer on Tuesday in New York City, and construction will begin soon in China, reports the Associated Press.
Palmer says the original Titanic is something that links all people together, the same as air and water. He also claims that 40,000 people have expressed an interest in being onboard the ship’s maiden voyage, which will duplicate the original’s trip from Southampton, England, to New York City and will feature period costumes and meals.
In terms of safety, the mogul says there’s one advantage his new ship will have that the original did not: “One of the benefits of global warming is there hasn’t been as many icebergs in the North Atlantic these days.”
In terms of safety, a representative of the ship’s designer told AP that Titanic II would be “safest cruise ship in the world.” Nonetheless, one addition to the original design will be the inclusion of a safety deck with state-of-the-art lifeboats in sufficient quantities to get everyone off in event of emergency.
