A television station was embarrassed yesterday after hackers caused it to warn its viewers of a zombie uprising.
Great Falls, Mont., television station KRTV ended up red-faced Monday after the station posted on its website and in a crawl during its broadcast of The Steve Wilkos Show that “dead bodies are rising from their graves,” Gawker reports.
The message came from the automated Emergency Alert System, which is used to alert people in the event of disasters and other hazards in a station’s broadcast area. The message apparently was placed in the system by hackers who are, so far, unidentified.
The station quickly pulled the alert from the broadcast and posted a correction.
“Someone apparently hacked into the Emergency Alert System and announced on KRTV and the CW that there was an emergency in several Montana counties,” the station’s website announced.
