Urine Tests … There’s an App for That

iPhone630 300x227 Urine Tests ... There's an App for That[1]People can use their smartphones for pretty much anything it seems. And that will soon include analyzing their own urine to detect potential health problems[2].

An app that uses a smartphone’s camera to check a urine sample for the presence of chemicals like proteins, nitrates and glucose was recently unveiled at a Los Angeles technology conference, the BBC notes.

Dubbed Uchek, the app requires that users collect a urine sample, and then place a specialĀ  test strip in it. Users then remove the strip from the urine, place it on a special mat and photograph it with their phone’s camera.

The color of the strip will reveal the urine’s contents, allowing users to test for cancers, liver issues, diabetes and infections, among other conditions.

Available on Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL[3]) App Store next month for $20, Uchek comes with five test strips and the special mat. A version of smartphones running Google‘s (NASDAQ:GOOG[4]) Android operating system will eventually be released.
