Food inspectors in Shanghai have destroyed tons of food being imported into China.
The destroyed food — which officials say violated China’s food quality standards — includes Kraft (NASDAQ:KRFT) Cream Cheese, Nestle (PINK:NSRGY) chocolate and IKEA chocolate cake, reports the Associated Press.
It took time for some of the companies to be notified about the problem. While the IKEA cake was destroyed in November and December, a spokeswoman for the Swedish company says it wasn’t notified until Monday.
The Shanghai inspection service says that the cake contained unacceptable levels of coliform bacteria. Nestle was informed that the chocolate that was destroyed tested too high in the sweetener sorbitol.
