‘Foodbabe’ Blogger Gets Wish: Chipotle Discloses What’s In Its Burritos

[1]Mexican fast food chain Chipotle (NYSE:CMG) has pleased a popular food blogger by making its ingredients public.

Vani Hari — who blogs under the name “Foodbabe”[2] — has been pestering the chain to release a full list of the ingredients for all of its dishes, reports Takepart.com[3].

Hari started asking questions last August and quickly ran into a blockade. After emails, calls and three store visits, all she got was a list of some ingredients provided by an employee without the manager’s permission.

Hari wasn’t happy about what she’d found out. Among the ingredients were preservatives, genetically modified organisms, and extra oils and trans fats. Hari took little time in posting the ingredients on her blog.

A week later, Hari received a tweet from Chris Arnold of Chipotle wanting to speak with her. Arnold told Vani that the chain didn’t release ingredient information due to concerns about the secrecy of its recipes. Hari didn’t buy it and started an online petition asking for the company to release the information to the public. Eventually, the chain went public with its ingredients.

A Chipotle spokesperson said the ingredient disclosure was something the company had been working on for some time before Vani contacted them.

The company also released a statement saying that it is committed to removing hyrogenated oils, preservatives and GMOs from its menu in the future.
