A new Nike (NYSE:NKE) ad campaign featuring Tiger Woods is generating some controversy.
Woods — who just won the Arnold Palmer Invitational to regain the top ranking — is featured in the ad which declares, “Winning Takes Care of Everything,” reports ABC News.
The ad has generated controversy on social media as viewers feel it is a comment on the golfer’s troubled personal life. Woods’ wife Ellen Nordegren divorced him after his history of massive infidelities came to light several years ago. Users on Twitter have tweeted, “except for the marriage & family u destroyed” and “disappointing message by Nike.”
“Tiger has always said he competes to win. When asked about his goals such as getting back to number one, he has said consistently winning is the way to get there. The statement references that sentiment and is a salute to his athletic performance,” Nike said in a release.
