Redbox Instant Streaming Service Officially Launches

redbox instant Redbox Instant Streaming Service Officially LaunchesThe new streaming video service Redbox Instant by Verizon went live yesterday.

The new service — produced through a partnership between Coinstar (NASDAQ:CSTR) and Verizon (NYSE:VZ) — is the latest entrant into the streaming video market, reports USA Today.

The company is attempting to leverage its base of more than 35,000 movie rental kiosks around the country and get those users to rent movies via digital streaming for a more convenient experience. However, Redbox Instant by Verizon only has 4,600 titles available for its launch so the selection is still very limited.

Pricing for the service combines both streaming and kiosk rentals. A base charge of $8 per month gets customers unlimited streaming and up to four DVD rentals per month. A upgraded subscription — costing $9 per month — provides four Blu-Ray rentals instead of the DVD rentals.

While the service is launched, the company says it will still be rolling out new features and functions as time passes. It also plans to expand the number of titles available for streaming in the future.
