Sheryl Sandberg Says She Wasn’t a Feminist In College

Sheryl Sandberg Sheryl Sandberg Says She Wasn't a Feminist In CollegeFacebook (NASDAQ:FB) COO and author Sheryl Sandberg says that women need to reclaim the word “feminist.”

Sandberg — who is currently promoting her book Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead which she calls “sort of a feminist manifesto” — says she wouldn’t have considered herself a feminist during her time in college, reports Harvard Business Review.

Sandberg says her book is about women achieving true equality by establishing themselves as leaders. She says that, for all the gains of the past, women still are not making progress at the very highest levels. She thinks it’s time to reclaim the word “feminist” and establish it as meaning equal opportunities for both men and women.

“Reigniting the revolution means I want us to notice all of this and find ways to encourage more women to step up and more companies to recognize what women bring to the table,” Sandberg said. By having more women in the corporate board rooms, she believes all of society will benefit.
