Student Returns ATM’s $1,800 Mistake

Delaware ATM spits out hundreds

A student at the University of Delaware returned $1,800 that he was accidentally received from an ATM.

Devon Gluck — a finance major who lives in Ellicott City, Md. — says the PNC (NYSE:PNC) ATM began making strange noises and spit out 18 $100 bills, reports the Delaware News Journal.

Gluck says he was stunned, took the money home and thought about what to do next. Four days later, he went to the bank branch to return the money.

Bank officials, while not commenting directly on the story, told the News Journal that a student had returned some money from the ATM. The student whose money was debited for the withdrawal has had his account corrected.

Said Gluck: “I kind of just thought maybe I can get something good out of this. I’ll definitely feel better, and I’m looking into going into banking and finance, so I felt like this was a good opportunity to meet someone, get a good reference and do the right thing.”
