The inventor of social media giant Twitter is hoping to succeed Michael Bloomberg as mayor of New York City.
Jack Dorsey — who coded the original Twitter and is this year’s Wall Street Journal Technology Innovator of the Year — says he believes his approach to how cities work can help, 60 Minutes reports.
After being forced out at Twitter — an event he described as a punch in the gut — Dorsey moved on to found Square, a startup technology firm focused on electronic payments, where he currently is CEO. When invited back to Twitter two years ago, he accepted and now has roles at both companies.
Dorsey says he’s not a natural communicator face-to-face. He says his natural shyness makes his better at contacting voters through texts, letters and — of course — tweeting.
Still, he believes he can bring a vision of New York that will take advantage of the chaotic nature of the city and allow it to grow and thrive.
