Fans of Arrested Development can circle May 26 on their calendars.
On that day, Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) will release a new 15-episode season of the defunct TV series that ran from 2003 to 2006 on News Corp.’s (NASDAQ:NWSA) Fox television network. Despite its cancellation, the show has retained a devoted following and is often cited by critics as one of the best TV shows ever, the New York Times notes.
All 15 episodes of the new series will become available for viewing by Netflix subscribers at once. The DVD-rental and video streaming service has moved toward developing its own original content in recent years, including February’s release of House of Cards a remake of a classic British TV series starring Kevin Spacey.
Original series creator Mitchell Hurwitz helmed the new Arrested Development season, produced under a deal with Netflix. The show’s original cast will return to reprise their roles in the series.
Shares of Netflix slipped fractionally in Thursday morning trading.
