Walt Disney (NYSE:DIS) is renovating its oldest cruise ship.
The Disney Magic — which is 15 years old — is spending five weeks this fall getting its top-deck, pool, restaurants and more redone, USA TODAY reports.
Removed will be the Mickey Mouse-shaped pool, which will be replaced by a modern water-play area. Also changing will be the grand lobby area to make it larger and more accessible for the guests. The new additions will be taken from lessons gained in the development of more recent Disney ships.
“I think there’s a little different aesthetic approach that we took on the Dream and the Fantasy (that will be implemented), maybe a little simpler, cleaner … and we’re just learning more about how our guests use the spaces,” said Joe Lanzisero, a Disney ship designer.
The vessel’s reworking will be done in Spain and should be completed by Oct. 10. It will also include new cabins and adult-only entertainment zones.
