Facebook Home: The Good (and Bad) News

500,000 installs, but bad reviews dog new software

Facebook185 Facebook Home: The Good (and Bad) NewsIn very few days, Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) Home has been downloaded more than 500,000 times.

The new software — which means to be a dominant front-end for Android smartphones — was first available on April 12, ZDNet reports.

However, even with the strong download rate, problems still remain for the social media giant’s new front-end. The majority of reviews at Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Play give it a one star out of five rating. In comparison, the company’s Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps have a majority of their ratings as five stars.

In addition, the 500,000 downloads that have occurred represent only a tiny percentage of potential downloads. Three existing Facebook apps on Google Play — Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram — all have between 100 and 500 million downloads each.

Still, the app is only available on select Android-based smartphones. That could be a limiting factor on the number of downloads.
