Later: Technical problems with new features on upcoming Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) products are proving more difficult than anticipated to resolve, AppleInsider notes. The technology hurdles will push back the launches of the company’s next-generation products this year, including the iPhone 5S and an updated iPad Mini. The report comes from KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo, who says the introduction of a fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5S has produced production problems that will take more time to resolve. Similarly, the inclusion of a Retina display in the next iPad Mini and developing super-slim plastic casings for a cheaper iPhone aimed at developing markets will also cause the launch dates of those devices to be pushed farther back than most analysts thought. Analyst had expected the iPhone 5S to launch this summer. Due to the delays, Kuo forecasts single-digit iPhone and iPad shipment growth during the third quarter of 2013. Other analysts are expecting growth of between 30% and 40% in the third quarter due to new product launches. Development of Apple’s newest version of iOS is also said to be taking longer than anticipated.

Thinner: The next-generation standard-sized iPad will use an updated LED backlight system, CNET notes. The re-designed LED back light will allow the iPad 5 to shave grams off the tablet’s weight and millimeters from its thickness. It remained unknown if Apple would implement IZGO (indium gallium zinc oxide) displays in the new iPad. The last two generations of iPads gained weight and thickness due to the inclusion of Retina-display technology.

Agreement: Apple will settle lawsuits over lapses in its iPhone and iPod Touch warranties, PC Magazine notes. The company was sued in various courts over failure to repair iPhones and iPods that were still protected by warranty coverage. Apple exempts damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquakes and spills from its warranty coverage. The suits were eventually consolidated into a single class action lawsuit. Under the terms of the proposed settlement — to be submitted to the court later this month — Apple will create a settlement fund that will disburse funds to claimants. In the settlement, Apple does not concede any wrongdoing.
