Search engine and technology giant Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced yesterday that the first shipments of its Google Glass will arrive within weeks.
The glasses — which display Internet-connected information on glasses over users eyes — will be available for testers as early as this month, ABC News is reporting.
The first edition of the product, “Glass Explorer Edition,” is being shipped to those who signed up to be product testers at the Google I/O developer conference last year and for the 8,000 people who won the #ifIhadglass social media contest earlier this year.
The Google Glass test will allow developers to begin experimenting with the capabilities of the technology and allow users to begin discovering its use in the real world.
Google has received additional money from two venture capital firms to provide seed funding for companies that want to develop software for Google Glass.
After the testing phase is complete, Google hopes to have a consumer version of the device on the market by the end of 2013.
