A man who allegedly stole a truck has blamed the walking dead for his behavior.
Jeremiah Clyde Hartline — who allegedly stole the truck from a weigh station on Saturday — told the California Highway Patrol that zombies were chasing him, The Los Angeles Times reports.
Hartline is accused of grand theft, driving without a license and hit-and-run. During the police chase, he swung the semi from side to side to shake off the zombies he believed were clinging to the vehicle, according to police. After a series of swerves that caused multiple collisions with other vehicles, Hartline crashed the rig and was taken into custody.
In all, Hartline reportedly caused injuries to eight people, including himself. The truck was overturned, spilling the load of strawberries it was carrying across the road. Interstate 15 near Temecula, Calif. was closed for hours while the mess was cleaned up. Hartline is now being held on $500,000 bail.
