Viacom’s (NASDAQ:VIAB) MTV cable channel is suspending production of Buckwild following the death of ones of its stars.
Shain Gandee — the 21-year-old who built fame for himself on the show through his loving of mudding — was found dead yesterday with two other men in a Ford Bronco, reports CBS News.
Gandee was one of the stars of Buckwild. The show — about nine young people in West Virginia — drew criticism from Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) for portraying the state in a negative light.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is thought to be the cause of Gandee’s death. The three men were found in a car that had its tailpipe blocked by mud and may have asphyxiated when the fumes entered the cab of the vehicle.
MTV released a statement saying, “We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident. We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
