Education may not be the first thing one associates with marijuana. But a new school in Nevada will provide courses in effective pot use.
The Budtender School is part of the Cannabis Career Institute, located in Henderson, Nev. It is offering a workshop to teach 40 students the basics of successful marijuana cultivation, sales and uses as a cooking ingredient, the Associated Press noted.
A bill to establish medical marijuana dispensaries is currently before the state legislature. Nevada voters approved a measure to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes more than a decade ago.
The Cannabis Career Institute has issued educational certificates in marijuana training to 1,500 students around the nation. However, the possession and distribution of marijuana is still consider a crime under federal law.
Last November, voters in Colorado and Washington approved ballot initiatives legalizing marijuana use. Those successes have motivated pot advocates in other states to promote the potential benefits of legalization to state tax coffers.
