Pepsi Seeks Patent for Mysterious Protein Drink

Pepsico Pepsi Seeks Patent for Mysterious Protein DrinkBeverage maker PepsiCo (NYSE:PEP) is trying out something new.

A new patent application — published this week but filed last September — reveals that the company is working on a new 4-ounce protein drink, Beverage Daily is reporting.

In the application, Pepsi spells out that the new drink will be high in protein and sold in 4-ounce servings. It will contain alpha-lactalbumin, whey protein and possibly hydrolyzed collegan.

Pepsi VP Dondeena Bradley, PhD had earlier hinted at the new beverage. In interviews last year she said the company was working on a drink that would be packaged in an unexpected way that would appeal to women.

The patent application describes the 4-ounce serving as a “hydration unit” and says each package will contain multiple units that will be 4% to 8% protein by weight. The exact composition of the proteins included in each drink is still not determined.
