Target Apologizes for ‘Offensive’ Plus-Size Dress Label

Target Target Apologizes for 'Offensive' Plus Size Dress LabelRetailer Target (NYSE:TGT) is changing its labeling system after a recent controversy.

A line of dresses – which in smaller size were called “dark heather gray” – were labeled “manatee gray” in the plus-sized version, ABC News is reporting. The dresses are identical in everything except size.

Social media is in an uproar over the news. First posted to Facebook, complaints have spread through Twitter as well. One woman tweeted, “What the. Plus sized women get ‘Manatee Grey’ while standard sizes are “Dark Heather Grey.” @Target #notbuyingit.”

A spokeswoman for Target has apologized for the mistake. She claims that the “manatee gray” color is used as a seasonal color across many of the retailer’s products and the difference in labeling was a mistake by two people uploading information to its website. It is changing its color descriptions to just “gray”.

“It was never our intention to offend our guests. We heard from our guest. We apologized and we are working to fix it ASAP,” said the spokeswoman.
