The firm acquired We Are Hunted — a music streaming service based in Australia — in a deal announced yesterday, Reuters reports.
While Twitter’s announcement merely confirmed the acquisition, the three-person firm We Are Hunted said, “There’s no question that Twitter and music go well together. Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day.”
The statement also said its current service would shut down as a part of the purchase.
The acquisition is Twitter’s latest as it attempts to become a multimedia content provider. Last year the company acquired video-sharing company Vine, a service that allows users to tweet six-second video files to their followers.
