Twitter’s long-anticipated mobile music service is now available to users of Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) devices.
Called #music, the app can be downloaded from the App Store by users in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand. Another version of the app will be launched for users with devices running Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android OS in the future, Bloomberg noted.
The app lets Twitter users share and listen to music from a variety of digital music outlets, including iTunes, Spotify and Rdio.
Social networks are becoming a platform for users to discover new music through sharing with friends. Twitter’s move comes after Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) implemented changes to its news feeds to enhance music sharing among users.
Last week, Twitter confirmed that it had acquired Australian music streaming service We Are Hunted, which will be shut down as a result.
