Walmart Worker Returns Lost Envelope Stuffed With $20K

The couple had obtained the cash from a financing company as a down-payment on a short-sale home. After stopping at a local Walmart on their way home, a store worker helped them unload packages into their car. But once they departed, the worker, Bismark Mensah, discovered the envelope left behind in the cart, the Seattle Times noted.

Mensah, who immigrated to the U.S. last year from Ghana, immediately ran after the couple as they drove away. When they stopped, he handed them the envelope.

The couple contacted Walmart to express their thanks. The chain has recognized Mensah with its 2013 “Integrity in Action Award.” Mensah, who has refused any reward from the couple, says his conscience prevented him from ever considering to keep the money.

Mensah is a courtesy associate at Walmart and makes $9.05 an hour.

Last week, a man crashed his car through the front entrance[4] of a San Jose, Calif., Walmart and began attacking shoppers when he emerged from the vehicle.

Shares of Walmart rose fractionally in Monday morning trading.
