Fans of McDonald’s (MCD) Southern Style Biscuits had better enjoy them while they can.
The iconic restaurant chain is considering dumping the biscuit, as well as steak bagels, Caesar salads and the McSkillet Burrito from its menu. McDonald’s is moving to pare down a menu whose number of items has jumped 70% in six years. Bloomberg notes
The plethora of choices — 145 in all — may be good for consumers, but maintaining facilities and staff to make every item is putting pressure on the chain’s staff and increasing food preparation times.
McDonald’s has sent teams to its franchisees to review customer complaints and streamline the menu, focusing on “core” items.
Last week, reports surfaced that McDonald’s will drop its high-price, calorie-laden Angus Burger, as well as its Chicken Selects and Fruit & Walnut salads.
Shares of McDonald’s rose modestly in Friday morning trading.
