A man in Georgia is claiming he has a copy of Coca-Cola’s (NYSE:KO) secret formula.
The man — Cliff Kluge of Ringgold, Ga. — says he found the recipe at the bottom of a box of old documents from the 1940s he bought at an estate sale, ABC News reports.
One of the documents is a letter that Kluge believes contains the company’s secret formula. “Whoever had typed this letter had seen the original recipe,” Kluge says. “The letter always references Coke and products and stuff. We believe it is definitely related to Coca-Cola.”
As for Coke, the company is skeptical about Kluge’s find. “At least once a year, somebody shows up and says, ‘I have the original formula for Coca-Cola. How much do you want to pay me for it?’ Well, I don’t need to pay them anything for it because we have the only real one,” Coke’s official archivist Ted Ryan says.
For now, Kluge has put the letter and the formula up on eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY). The bidding starts at $5 million but there’s also a “Buy it Now” option at $15 million.
