Bieber, Usher Accused of Stealing Hit Song

Virginia singer claims he owns 'Somebody to Love'

BieberA singer in Chesapeake, Vir. is suing Justin Bieber, Usher and the co-producers of the hit song “Somebody to Love.”

Devin Copeland — who performs under the name “De Rico” — claims in the suit that he and Mareio Overton wrote and produced a song entitled “Somebody to Love” in 2008, ABC News reports.

Copeland says that Bieber and his associates are guilty of copyright infringement. Copeland’s song appeared on his 2008 album My Story II. In 2009, Copeland turned over copies of the record to talent scouts. Copeland alleges that one of the people who got a copy of his song is Usher, who later mentored Bieber and sang back up on Bieber’s song “Somebody to Love.” The single went platinum around the world.

Copeland claims that the two stars and their producers used his song as the basis for Bieber’s. He is seeking $10 million in damages. The suit alleges that there are 17 musical similarities between the two recordings.
