Eminem’s Publisher Sues Facebook Over Song

The ad agency claims the song was copied from Michael Jackson

facebook like t-shirt 630On Monday, Eight Mile Style (EMS), which manages the rights to rapper Eminem’s music, filed suit against Facebook (FB) in federal court.

EMS claims that the social media giant used music from a 2000 song from the once-prominent rap artist without permission. The song was included in a 30-second ad promoting Facebook’s Home app for mobile devices running Google‘s (GOOG) Android operating system. A version of the ad later appeared on YouTube featuring different music, the Detroit Free Press notes.

In its lawsuit, EMS alleges that Facebook’s marketing agency copied the Eminem song “Under the Influence” for the ad. However, the ad agency says that EMS has no grounds to sue, since the part of the song used in the ad had been originally copied from Eminem from a Michael Jackson song.

EMS has previously sued Apple (AAPL) and Volkswagen‘s (VLKAY) Audi division over the use of Eminem music in their marketing videos.

In February, real estate tycoon Donald Trump threatened to sue rapper Mac Miller for royalties after the musician used his name in a song.
