Social media giant Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) has blocked a new app that deletes user accounts.
The new app — called “Social Roulette” — takes 1 in 6 users’ accounts and completely deletes all posts and information connected with it, The Daily Telegraph reports. Users who launch the app and are not deleted get a status message that reads, “I just played Social Roulette and survived.”
According to the developers of Social Roulette, Facebook blocked it almost as soon as it got up and running.
“It took us four hours to create the project, and it took another four hours for Facebook to respond,” founder Kyle McDonald said.
In a statement, Facebook said, “We take action against apps that violate our platform policies as laid out here: https://developers.facebook.com/policy/, in order to maintain a trustworthy experience for users.”
McDonald says he hopes to have Social Roulette up and running on Facebook again shortly.
