Ford 150 300x193 Ford Adding 2,000 Workers Due to Surging Truck Demand[1]Rising sales of Ford‘s (NYSE:F[2]) F-150 pickup trucks spells good news for auto workers[3].

On Thursday, the car-maker announced that it would hire 900 workers for a new shift at its 4.7 million-square-foot Claycomo, Missouri, production plant, which produces the trucks. A company official noted that the sales growth for full-sized pickup trucks was three times that of overall U.S. auto sales, the Associated Press noted.

In addition to the workers added to F-150 production, Ford is also recruiting 1,100 workers to build Transit vans at the same factory.

Ford manufactures the F-150 at two factories. With the addition of a third shift to the Missouri facility, both plants are now running three production shifts. A company executive said that growing production of the pickup trucks would likely prompted additional hiring by component manufacturers to meet rising parts demand.

Roughly half of the new jobs at the plant will be given to previously laid off Ford workers. The remainder will be fresh hires.

Earlier this week, Ford said it would begin selling its F-Series pickup trucks and Ford Rangers in the formerly closed Southeast Asian nation of Myanmar[4].

Shares of Ford gained modestly in Thursday morning trading.
