Fortune 500: Best Big Companies to Work for

[1]Fortune is out with its annual list of the top large companies for workers.

The report — which is limited to the Fortune 500 list of biggest companies — compiles information about employees, their pay, the number of applicants, benefits and other perks. Those factors are then combined and the top companies are revealed.

Here’s the top 10 from the list[2]:

1. Google[3] (NASDAQ:GOOG[4]): The search engine wins for the fourth straight year.
2. NetApp[5] (NASDAQ:NTAP[6]): Vice Chair Tony Mendoza calls 20 or more workers every day to thank them.
3. Qualcomm[7] (NASDAQ:QCOM[8]): Staff are encouraged to submit innovative ideas for the annual in-house conference.
4. Chesapeake Energy[9] (NYSE:CHK[10]): Pays “Safety Bonuses” to workers who follow safe practices.
5. Devon Energy[11] (NYSE:DVN[12]): Workers get regular contact – and lunches – with upper management.
6. American Express[13] (NYSE:AXP[14]): Multiple employee networks connect and diversify the workforce.
7. Stryker[15] (NYSE:SYK[16]): Ping-Pong tables and “pie-your-manager” competitions.
8. Marriott International[17] (NYSE:MAR[18]): 10% of employees have been there 20 years or more.
9. Darden Restaurants[19] (NYSE:DRI[20]): Part-time workers get low-cost health insurance.
10. Whole Foods Market[21] (NASDAQ:WFM[22]): Transparent practices allow employees to watch upper management and each other.
