General MotorsOn Monday, General Motors (NYSE:GM) issued a recall for some vehicles featuring its eAssist hybrid system.

The recall affects more than 38,000 Chevrolet Malibu Ecos and Buick LaCrosse and Regal hybrids. Faulty circuit boards located in the vehicles’ trunks were vulnerable to over-heating, which could cause the vehicles to stall and spark fires, the Los Angeles Times notes.

GM said drivers would be alerted by indicator lights on the dashboard as the vehicles’ batteries drained due to the overheating. It became aware of the problem in October implemented a new design, meaning that cars manufactured after December 2012 are not affected by the problem.

Owners of affected vehicles are advised to return their vehicles to dealerships at once if they notice a warning light.

A number of incidents have been linked to the faulty circuit boards, most occurring during the vehicles’ initial 1,000 miles of use. No injuries have been reported.
