Social media website Pinterest could soon be a sexier place.
Pinterest says it will relax its ban on the sharing of images containing nudity. The change comes after art fans and photographers criticized the policy. It also comes as numerous Pinterest users continue to share materials that violate the existing ban, TechCrunch notes.
Photographers and artists have found a home on Pinterest, sharing images of paintings, drawings, sculpture and photographs that show the naked human form. In order to placate users, the website has to find a way to keep users from crossing the line between artistic nudes and pornography, which is already banned under its acceptable use policy.
Facebook (FB) has faced a similar challenge in handling content that some find objectionable. The social media giant was recently upbraid by anti-sexism advocates for failing to delete postings that they considered misogynistic. The advocates targeted Facebook advertisers and the company has announced a crack down on the offensive postings.
In February, Pinterest raised $200 million in financing from a variety of private equity firms and other investors.
