google maps sign 630Users of Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) popular Maps app may soon see some changes.

According to GoogleOperatingSystem, a blog devoted to Google-related news, the Internet search giant is reportedly preparing to overhaul the app’s graphical interface, ditching its sidebars in favor of displaying all information directly on the map, which will now be full screen.

Google is also said to be streamlining the interface to perform better on mobile devices. Navigational buttons will be jettisoned in favor of enhanced map icons. The maps themselves will see a new set of colors and text formats.

Users will also be able to fine-tune searches for local venues based on reviews of social media tie-ins.

Any changes to Google Maps could be introduced at next week’s I/O Conference in San Francisco.

Last year, Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) dumped Google Maps from the back-end of iOS after Google would not provide turn-by-turn navigation capability to the iOS version of the app.

However, Apple’s internally-developed maps app was strongly criticized for errors and glitches. Google launched a new version of its Maps app for iOS devices in December.

Shares of Google slipped fractionally in Thursday morning trading.
