Korean electronics giant Samsung (PINK:SSNLF) announced Monday that a new “5G” system could be up and running as soon as 2020.
The new system — which Samsung says could be hundreds of times faster than 4G — could again revolutionize the mobile communications industry, The New York Times reports.
The new system would be so fast that there would be no effective limitation on the size of data files that users of mobile devices could send. Even files as large as high-definition movies could be sent quickly and without fuss.
In a statement, Samsung said, “Samsung’s latest innovation is expected to invigorate research into 5G cellular communications across the world. The company believes it will trigger the creation of international alliances and the timely commercialization of related mobile broadband services.”
