According to CNN, two of the building’s residents — James Parham and Cheryl Chaney — have been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a nuisance.
Six other people are now banned from entering the Tibbs Senior Building in Englewood. The six are alleged to have entered the building to use drugs in Parham’s apartment and to use it for prostitution.
The alleged drug use involved primarily crack cocaine. The users, whose ages range from the 50s to the 70s, reportedly sold and used the drugs in the non-secured building while other residents stayed in their apartments out of fear.
“With unrestricted access, no checks and balances with respect to who came or went, these residents offered a facility for these activities,” Chief of Police Arthur O’Keefe said.
