Yum Brands’ (NYSE:YUM) Taco Bell chain is test marketing a new sweet and savory breakfast item.
The newest item on the breakfast menu is a breakfast-oriented waffle taco, Nation’s Restaurant News reports — and is being tested at one location in Southern California.
The waffle taco is lighting up social media, although chain is being tight-lipped about it. Social media reports indicate that the dish contains sausage and scrambled eggs inside a waffle that’s folded like a taco. Other reports indicate that it comes with syrup and that it’s priced at 89 cents.
The new item would appear to work well with the chain’s direction. CEO Greg Creed earlier said that the chain hopes to double its sales in 10 years with the addition of a strong breakfast menu it’s calling “First Meal.”
If reports are true, then Taco Bell is the latest fast food chain to jump on the waffle bandwagon. Rival McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) as well as Dunkin’ Brands (NASDAQ:DNKN) and Jack in the Box (NASDAQ:JACK) each have their own waffle-and-syrup breakfast items already in place.
