Iconic investor Warren Buffett is now making pronouncements via Twitter.
The billionaire’s appearance on the popular social media platform can be considered something of a surprise given that Buffett doesn’t even have a desktop computer in his Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A, BRK.B) office in Omaha, Nebraska, the Los Angeles Times notes.
Still, fellow celebrities were quick to welcome Buffett to Twitter. Former president Bill Clinton, The Office actor Rainn Wilson and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) founder Bill Gates tweeted their respects to Buffett.
The public also seemed to like Buffett’s Twitter debut. By Friday morning, his Twitter feed had attracted more than 278,000 followers.
Buffett’s made his first tweet from @WarrenBuffett on Thursday, telling followers: “Warren is in the house.”
The Oracle of Omaha is the second richest man to have a genuine Twitter account after Bill Gates.
Last month, stock markets around the world dropped sharply after a hacker seized control of the Associated Press’ Twitter account and sent out a bogus tweet indicating that President Barack Obama had been injured in an explosion at the White House.
