The service, which uses an array of antennas to stream content — including live feeds from broadcast TV stations — to subscribers’ mobile devices, plans to launch its service in Chicago in just over two months. The service will include several major Windy City broadcast channels and Bloomberg TV when it launches on September 16, the Associated Press notes.

Broadcast Stocks’ Signals Are Getting Stronger

Aereo’s Chicago service will stream content to users in 16 counties in Illinois and Indiana.

The brainchild of media mogul Barry Diller, Aereo has drawn the wrath of broadcast TV station operators like Disney (DIS), News Corp. (NWSA), CBS (CBS) and Comcast (CMCSA) because it does not pay carriage fees to transmit broadcast TV programming.

Broadcasters have sued Aereo to block the service and some have even threatened to move their TV channels to a subscription model if the courts don’t rule in their favor.

Earlier this year, Aereo expanded from its original market in New York City, adding Boston and Atlanta to the growing roster of cities it serves.
