Chipotle Becomes First U.S. Restaurant to Voluntarily Label GMOss

CMG eventually plans to eliminate GMOs from its food altogether

Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) has become an example to restaurants now that it has voluntarily labeled all of the genetically modified organisms (GMOs) found in its ingredients.

According to Natural News, CMG has become America’s first major food supplier to label these organisms on its products on a voluntary basis. Considering Chipotle brands itself as a healthy alternative to fast food, this new labeling should help further that image.

Of course, the Mexican restaurant chain doesn’t want to stop at just labeling what food has GMOs in it — it says it wants to remove all GMO’s from its menu.

“Our goal is to eliminate GMOs from Chipotle’s ingredients, and we’re working hard to meet this challenge,” the Chipotle website says. “For example, we recently switched our fryers from soybean oil to sunflower oil. Soybean oil is almost always made from genetically modified soybeans, while there is no commercially available GMO sunflower oil.”
