Facebook Glitch Shared Private Information of 6M Users

Social media network Facebook (FB) recently announced that it fixed a bug that provided Facebook users with the private information of about 6 million other users, reports Reuters.

“We currently have no evidence that this bug has been exploited maliciously and we have not received complaints from users or seen anomalous behavior on the tool or site to suggest wrongdoing,” Facebook wrote on its blog.

Facebook users have a different story to tell.

“You sent me an email saying only 1 person saw one email,” says one Facebook user. “That does not explain the huge increase in spam to a private email that is not published except when you made it public.”

The bug also brings to light Facebook’s “Shadow Profile” program. A Shadow Profile is information collected by Facebook and linked to a user’s account that wasn’t given to Facebook by the user, reports ZDNet. Information shared by the bug included Shadow Profile information.
