The websites were shut down when authorities put an end to more than 1,600 fake pharmaceutical websites, with at least two of the websites copying Walgreen and CVS. More than $41 million worth of illegal medications were seized by officials as part of the operation.
“Many of these websites are professionally done,” John Roth, director of the FDA’s office of criminal investigations, told The Wall Street Journal . “This is an ongoing battle in the U.S. and abroad.”
The action taken against these websites was part of “Operation Pangea VI” and included the FDA, Interpol and various other medical and enforcement agencies.
