‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Movie to Hit Theaters Next Year

Comcast’s (CMCSA) Universal Studios and Focus Features announced August 1, 2014 as the global release date for the 50 Shades of Grey movie adaptation.

Focus Feature acquired movie rights to all three books in the Fifty Shades Trilogy in 2012.

Sam Taylor-Johnson will be directing the film. Previously Johnson directed the 2010 film Nowhere Boy, which was a biopic of John Lennon’s early teenage years.

Kelly Marcel, who is the creator of Fox’s Terra Nova, has been hired to write the screenplay for the movie. She is also credited as writing the screenplay for the upcoming film Saving Mr. Banks, which acts as a behind-the-scenes look into the creation of the Marry Poppins film.

Marcel isn’t planning to hold back for the movie and says it will be filled with sex.

No actors have been announced for the film yet, but Emma Waston quickly squashed rumors of her involvement.

The Fifty Shades Trilogy has sold over 70 million copies worldwide according to Focus Features.
