Canadian pop star Justin Bieber plans to leave Earth altogether.
According to a tweet issued by British billionaire Richard Branson, the troubled teen heartthrob has joined the list of celebrities waiting to board a Virgin Galactic spaceship for a ride into sub-orbit. Bieber’s agent has also signed up for the trip, NBC News notes.
Bieber’s plans are not surprising considering that he tweeted his desire to “do a concert in space” earlier this year.
Virgin Galactic hopes to start launching suborbital flights with its SpaceShipTwo rocket-powered space plane sometime next year. The ship will takeoff from the company’s Spaceport America, located in New Mexico, sending passengers 62 miles above the Earth’s surface and then returning them to the Earth.
Other celebrities, including Victoria Principal, Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Ashton Kutcher and Sarah Brightman, have also reportedly signed up for the space flights, which cost $250,000 a ticket.
Back on Earth, Bieber faces lingering fallout from an alleged altercation with a California neighbor earlier this year.
